Ray Turner lives in Coventry and was on holiday in the area, he had just bought some gear and wanted a few instructions on how best to use it and if it was suitable for the type of fishing he wanted to do. He also needed to know a good place to catch some fish while he was on holiday and where to get his bait and tackle. He booked a five hour morning session at Weybread Fishery. After a slow start the heavy feeding started to work and he ended up with three big bream and plenty of skimmers and roach for about 20lb. Ray also visited the fishery a few days later and done even better using the simple float tactics he had learned the previous week.
Mr Goucher is a farmer from near Thetford he was bought three days fishing by his daughter for a slightly different birthday present. He had no previous experience of fishing so everything was new to him. The first day we went to Weybread Club pit and fished a simple light pole rig with maggot and pellets to catch anything we could, a hot sunny day didn't help the fishing. The maggots done the trick with plenty of small roach, gudgeon and perch eager to please. A change to the floating pole later in the day finished the day on a high, landing a dozen small carp in the last hour. For the second trip we tried a bit of spinning in the river for some good casting practice, as he had never seen a rod and reel before sadly the fish didn't want to play and we drew a blank. A quick move to the Middle pit and we put the casting practice into action with a go on the method feeder for one of the big carp again we drew a blank and a free days fishing was offered with my no fish no pay guarantee. For the final session Mr Goucher decided he would like another go on the pole so we went to the prolific Weybread Fishery I was not going to let him blank again. Finding the small baits hard to handle corn was the order of the day fishing a full 11m. He finished with the best session so far landing three big bream some big crucians up to 2lb plus a small tench and loads of roach and skimmers. His session was complete when a 3lb pike took a liking for one of his roach making up for the disappointment of his days spinning. His final weight of over twenty-five pounds of mixed fish was a fitting end to his birthday present. Mr Goucher will be back for his free session later in the year after the harvest.
Stephen Foster being a young boy fancied having a go at fishing. His father knew nothing about fishing so contacted me about a beginners lesson for his son. So he could have a go without the cost of having to fork out for expensive tackle only to see Stephen not enjoy the sport and give up after a couple of goes. The venue was the Club Pit at Weybread, again thing were kept simple with a short pole and a simple dibber rig with maggots and corn for bait. We fished peg 5 a form peg at the time and dispite the heavy rain storms bagged up with Stephen catching five Carp up to 5lb 14oz (pictured) and dozens of roach, perch and gudgeon for a total weight of about 25lbs, an excellent start to his fishing career.
Terry Foster, Stephens father looked on to start with but after a few good fish he was hooked and soon wanted to get in on the action, using a similar pole set up with a single grain of corn on a fourteen hook it was not long before he was into his first fish a good Common Carp of about 3½lb (pictured). He went on to finish with 5 carp and a few roach and gudgeon all caught in about two hours fishing.
